Water, Human Rights and Prosperity
How much of the issue of human rights and water accessibility can be tackled in a blog? Not much. How much of this is new information? Not much. However, we (me personally, and the Hanish Water family as a whole) will continue to sound the alarm on this issue. Here are some reasons we ALL need to care about access to clean water for everyone on the planet:
The number of human beings in Africa who lack access to clean water is greater than the entire population of the United States. No more on this need be said, we ARE our brothers keepers.
More than 40 billion hours per year are spent by individuals (primarily women and children) collecting water. This illustrates the fact that access to clean water is more than a mere convenience. This is a human rights issue, a women’s rights issue and a children’s rights issue. Time spent collecting and treating water denies these individuals access to education, job skills training, and economic growth.
Reducing the distance to a water source by only 15 minutes results in a 12 percent increase of school attendance by girls.
Nearly 1,000 children under age 5 die every day from diarrhea caused by contaminated water.
Water is Life. We are continuing to invest in researching and producing the most innovative and efficient technologies in water treatment, and while we are based in the United States, we are a globally-minded organization. Water is a human right, and access to clean water opens up a world of possibilities and potential for each and every individual born into this world.
We were thankful to see so many celebrities and personalities supporting #WorldWaterDay yesterday, and we’re so thankful that more and more individuals are considering the importance of contributing to providing access to clean water for all.
